A Timeless Journey Through Kenya’s Wilderness

Treetops Lodge

A Timeless Journey Through Treetops Lodge

Once upon a sun-dappled morning in the heart of Aberdare National Park, a remarkable treehouse emerged—Treetops Lodge. Its roots trace back to the early 1930s, when the visionary Eric Sherbrooke Walker envisioned a sanctuary where guests could immerse themselves in the untamed beauty of the African wilderness.

In 1932, Treetops Lodge materialized as a modest two-room haven, ingeniously nestled within the ancient boughs of a colossal 300-year-old fig tree.  Guests would ascend into the canopy, leaving the world below to explore the secrets of the forest.

Imagine waking up to the rustling leaves, the distant calls of birds, and the gentle sway of branches—an experience that transcended mere accommodation.

Destiny

Royal Encounters

Treetops’ story took an enchanting turn in 1952 when destiny beckoned.

Princess Elizabeth, on the cusp of her historic ascension to the British Throne, chose Treetops as her retreat.
Little did she know that her stay would forever intertwine her name with this arboreal gem.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, Princess Elizabeth received the news of her father’s passing, and in that poignant moment, she became Queen Elizabeth II. The fig tree stood witness, its ancient limbs cradling both history and majesty.

Evolution

Evolving with Time

Over the years, Treetops Lodge expanded, mirroring the growth of Kenya’s conservation efforts.

By the time Queen Elizabeth II graced its branches, Treetops boasted four rooms, each with its own view of the surrounding savanna. The resident hunter’s room, adorned with tales of tracking elusive wildlife, became a cherished corner for those seeking adventure.

The lodge’s architecture evolved, blending rustic charm with modern comforts, yet always paying homage to the towering fig tree that birthed it.

What's that?

Wildlife at Your Doorstep

Treetops Lodge isn’t merely a place to rest; it’s a portal to the wild.

Imagine sipping your morning coffee as elephants amble by, their massive forms casting shadows on the wooden walkways. The symphony of birdcalls—each note a celebration of life—fills the air. At night, the stars emerge, and the nocturnal creatures stir.

Treetops becomes a theater where nature performs, and you’re the privileged audience.

Indeed...

A Legacy Preserved

Today, Treetops Lodge stands as a testament to conservation, hospitality, and the enduring magic of Kenya. Its branches cradle memories—of whispered secrets, and dew-kissed mornings. Guests arrive, seeking solace and connection, and depart with hearts imprinted by the wild. The fig tree, now centuries old, remains the silent custodian of countless stories, waiting to share them with those who listen.
